Resurrection Sunday: All About Jesus
Today is a special day, like any other day, because we get to live in the freedom and love that surrounds us by our Lord Jesus Christ. The purpose of this blog is to inform you of the sacrifice that was made over 2,000 years ago by Jesus, the Son of God. Writing this post fills my heart with much gratitude, yet, sadness because God chose us. He believed we were worth dying for so we could have eternal life. In John 11: 25-26, Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.." Jesus was saying that although our time will run out on earth in our fleshly bodies, our spirits will live eternally in Heaven if we believe in Him. He goes on to say, "...and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."
While Jesus walked this earth, He was surrounded by those who loved Him and lived according to His instruction. Many also hated Jesus and became angry that someone like Him was claimed to be King of the Jews. We learn in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus was put to death by Pontius Pilate, a Roman official. However, before Jesus' death, he was scourged and mocked for being claimed as King of the Jews. Soldiers laughed at Him and tied together a crown of thorns to be placed upon His head. Jesus was crucified and nailed to the cross with one nail in each of His hands and one nail in His feet. After Jesus died on the cross, His body was taken to a tomb. We learn in Mark 9:30-32 that Jesus told His disciples that the Son of God would be delivered into the hands of men, and He would be killed. However, after three days He would rise. After three days, Jesus arose (Matthew 28:5-6).
